Alpaca Fiber

Alpaca fiber has proven to be a wonderful fleece that’s commonly spun into yarn and used for felting, weaving, knitting, and crocheting. It’s very soft and contains lower amounts of lanolin than similar fleeces, and as such there’s a much lower chance for a wearer to experience an allergic reaction. Anyone who wears clothing made from, or has felt alpaca fiber, will tell you that it’s soft, silky, and feels great against your skin. Alpacas, and their fleece, can be found in many different shades from white to black, and comes from two different alpaca types: huacuyas and suris. Huacuyas sport a dense and soft fiber coat while suris have silky pencil-like strands.

The North American alpaca industry is working hard to establish a profitable fiber industry here in America, and we’re proud to be part of this industry. We specialize in grey and brown huacuyas here at Spring Oaks Alpaca, but our herd produces a large selection of fiber colors that also include fawn and white. Our focus is on outstanding fiber quality.

We had some of our fiber spun to yarn ready for your next knitting or crocheting project. We also sell raw fiber for your fiber craft projects.
